SALT LAKE CITY - Twenty-two technology innovations have been selected as finalists in the sixth annual Utah Innovation Awards, presented by Stoel Rives LLP and the Utah Technology Council. This statewide program, the first of its kind, is designed to recognize innovations and the Utah companies that created them and is sponsored by Connect magazine. Finalists and winners will be honored at a special Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Marriott City Center. Registration is available online at www.stoel.com/innovation.
Eight winners—one from each category—will be announced at the May 21st Awards Luncheon. A committee of more than 60 experts from Utah’s private industry, government and academic communities selected the winners and finalists in each of the program’s eight categories: biotechnology/pharmaceuticals, chemicals/materials science, clean technology and energy, computer hardware/electrical devices, consumer software, enterprise business-to-business software, mechanical devices and medical devices.
In addition to identifying finalists, the Selection Committee also identified innovations worthy of an honorable mention (note: honorable mentions were not awarded to innovations in every category). Finalists will showcase their innovations at 11:00 am and the Awards Luncheon will begin at noon. Dr. Chris Johnson, Director Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute, Co-Director, NIH Center for Integrative Biomedical Computing, and Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at the University of Utah will deliver the keynote address.
