Our Story

Wasatch Wind was formed in 2002 from the expertise and passion of Founder, Tracy Livingston, who believes he's found his life's calling in wind energy.

The Story behind the Philosophy

By 2000, Tracy had proven that he could take ideas and grow them into long-term successful businesses. With the sale of a medical technology business he founded and led for nearly a decade, Tracy decided it was time for a break to contemplate his next career move. "I was looking for something this time around that would make a difference in the world and something I really believed in."

During his sabbatical, Tracy read an article about wind power and was immediately intrigued. "This is the direction our nation is moving in - it's what we need to be doing." Around the same time, Tracy and his family took a vacation to his birthplace in Tennessee. They visited Clingman's Dome, the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where Tracy hiked as a child. Upon arrival Tracy was devastated to see that the forest had been havocked, in part, by acid rain. (Read more about the air quality in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park)

Passion for the Outdoors

Those who know Tracy and the employees of Wasatch Wind know about their shared love for the outdoors. When they're not in the office, each is hiking, biking or skiing and enjoying the great Western outdoors. Each member of the team therefore shares enthusiasm for nationally-generated, clean, renewable energy and the benefits of reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Positive, Lasting Contribution

"Decades from now our employees will be able to proudly proclaim to their children how we made a positive, lasting and substantial contribution, in a generation where many could not comprehend or understand that continued and complete dependence on fossil fuels threatens the planet and the very existence of the American way of life."

My favorite part of this business is the landowners. We are able to generate clean energy and simultaneously make a difference in the lives of rural landowners and communities.
